What an incredible evening we had at Chiasma Wellington’s sold-out Synapse 2024! We are immensely grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to the event’s success. It was truly inspiring to witness so many bright minds from the STEM community come together to engage in thought-provoking discussions and forge valuable connections. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our amazing sponsors, Arotec Diagnostics and OpenStar Technologies, whose generous support made this event possible. A special thank you to our distinguished speakers, Dr. Simon McCallum and Nina Vidović, who captivated the audience with their insights on this year’s theme, “Future Frontiers: A Journey to 2050.” Their perspectives on the future of science, AI, and communication sparked fantastic conversations throughout the evening. We’re also grateful to the industry representatives from ESR, Momentum, MRINZ, Robinson Research Institute, and Ferrier Research Institute, who hosted booths, offering students invaluable networking opportunities. Everyone’s enthusiasm, curiosity, and engagement made Synapse 2024 a resounding success, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of 2024 will bring!

Chiasma Dunedin

The Chiasma Dunedin team put in extraordinary effort to bring our largest event of the year, Synapse, to life. Despite a significant challenge involving a venue change and a new setup, our dedication ensured the event’s success. On July 25th, 2024, “Synapse: Collaboration” attracted over 115 attendees to the Otago Business School Atrium, creating an energetic environment centred around the theme “Where Science and Innovation Converge.” The evening featured an inspiring keynote address by John Hale of BLIS Technologies, whose exploration of microbiology and R&D set a high benchmark for innovation. The panel discussion that followed provided valuable insights from industry leaders, deepening the audience’s understanding of how science intersects with practical applications. The networking session was particularly beneficial, allowing students to build meaningful connections with industry professionals and explore career opportunities. Overall, “Synapse: Collaboration” successfully fostered collaboration and innovation, combining thought-provoking discussions with dynamic networking. We extend our gratitude to everyone who participated and contributed to making the event a resounding success.
