Kia ora everyone and welcome to the first edition of the Chiasma National newsletter 2024!

This will provide a snapshot of Chiasma across the country each month as well as bringing you the latest updates, jobs, internships and news in the wider STEM fields. We hope that this will be a useful addition to Chiasma and we encourage you to reach out to us to provide feedback or suggestions for the newsletter.

For now, we hope you enjoy this newsletter and wherever you are in the country we hope you enjoy the Chiasma events on offer to you this year!

Chiasma Auckland Launch

Chiasma Auckland Launch in March successfully kicked off 2024 for our Auckland members!

The event was an exciting way to introduce the student community to our range of programs lined up for the year! We were also joined by other partners and sister organisations – such as Momentum, Velocity, and our future club collaborators. We had three incredible speakers who shared insights and inspired the audience to go after their passion! After the talks, we had networking and some delicious catering to support conversations between our attendees, speaker guests, and executive committee!

All in all, it was a great night and a wonderful sneak peek into what’s to come for our Auckland members!

Chiasma Wellington Launch

On the 26th of March Chiasma Wellington hosted our first event for 2024: Launch! What an amazing night, we’re still buzzing from the incredible energy and enthusiasm from those who joined us at the Memorial Theatre at Victoria University of Wellington.

From inspiring panel discussions to valuable connections, it was an unforgettable night as we explored this year’s theme ‘Bridging the Gap’; how can effective communication strategies unite science and society, promoting understanding and collaboration? There’s nothing quite like passionately discussing topics and sharing career aspirations alongside decadent platters and desserts!

An enormous thank you to our speakers; Dr. Gill Jolly who brought a wealth of knowledge to the panel on connecting science with policy and fostering collaboration across sectors, Dr. Sarah Jane O’Connor who provided us with valuable insight on the importance of bridging the gap between scientists and the public, and Dr. John Kerr who shed light on the intersection of science, media and public perception of the science industry. Special thanks to our MC Dr. Maddie White who kept the energy high and conversations flowing throughout the night!

Chiasma Dunedin Launch

We celebrated innovation and community at the Chiasma Dunedin Launch 2024 event.

Attendees had the chance to discover the exciting initiatives and events Chiasma had to offer while engaging with industry leaders and fellow students in STEM fields. Guest speakers provided insights into the latest trends and opportunities in technology and innovation, while networking opportunities abounded with professionals and campus organisations. Refreshments were enjoyed, and connections were made among like-minded individuals passionate about shaping the future.

Thank you to everyone who attended and made this event a success.
