We all know that Chiasma has some really good events where you can network with students and industry members alike, but what some of you may not know is that Chiasma puts on some really good workshops too. Personally, I think that the workshops are the best way to both network and to gain new insights on topics such as science communication, innovation and entrepreneurship, and professional development.
We always have some pretty accomplished speakers from the science industry, and also from other areas such as intellectual property. It’s the perfect way to have a more in depth discussion with industry members and with Chiasma team members too! You will be surprised at how much we know about leveraging your networks and capitalising on the events that you attend. We have a handful of workshops throughout the year which are really valuable as they are held during one day of the weekend over a few hours. Don’t worry, we provide morning tea and lunch as well.
We have already held the ever popular Professional Development workshop with Susan Wilson (The University of Auckland Business School), Nitika Sharma (Callaghan Innovation) and Jeff Williams (Douglas Pharmaceuticals). The interactive session on CVs, cover letters and utilising LinkedIn by Susan is second to none, and the talks from Nitika and Jeff were interesting, witty and informative.
We had our first Design Thinking workshop with Comvita. This was an interactive session where we went through the design thinking process for a healthy lifestyle solution for someone in our group. What was really interesting was creating the prototype for our solution product or service using fun materials such playdough, card and pipe cleaners. This was the first workshop of this type offered, so watch this space for further developments!
Coming up next is the Science Communication workshop on the 17th of May and the Science Commercialisation and Innovation workshop on the 25th of July.
Simply click on the Science Commercialisation and Innovation workshop link under the Upcoming Events tab on the Chiasma homepage to get further information and to RSVP. See you there!
